Francesco Bondì born in 1982, in Palermo (Italy). After graduating in musical and science subjects obtains a degree cum laude at Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze in 2006, with a thesis on history of theatrical performance titled “ Sfinge, la città e l’enigma_ tecné contro tecné”, which has been considered for pubblication.   

Winner of various competitions, and he obtains many publications, such as Premio Nazionale delle Arti for two years in a row with theatre projects for G. Verdi’s Otello (2005) and V. Bellini’s Norma (2006). Trained at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

In 2006, in Seoul, he makes his debut working as set designer and costume designer for G.Verdi’s Don Carlo premiere in Korea, music direction by Ottavio Marino, directed by So-Young Lee, at Seoul Opera House. National and international press and public responses positively to the piece. The Italian Embassy as well remains very impressed from the symbolic value of the set.

In 2007, he worked in Lisbona, as stage director at Teatro Nacional Sao Carlos, for G. Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri , music direction by Alessandro Pinzauti, directed by Toni Servillo; for G.Verdi’s Macbeth, music direction by Antonio Pirolli, directed by Elena Barbalich, and for A. Piazzola’s Maria de Buenos Aires,music direction by Victor Villena, directed by Desirée Meiser. In the same year he works as assistant director for G. Verdi’s Traviata at the IV Opera Festival of Obidos, and for W. A. Mozart’s L’Impresario teatrale at the Opera Festival of the Royal Biblioteque of Mafra.

In 2008, for the 150° Anniversary of Giacomo Puccini’s birth , he debuts as opera director for G. Puccini’s Tosca and for the same show works as set designer, music direction by Giovanni Andreoli; the same piece closes with success the V Opera Festival of ObidòsIn the same edition of the Opera Festival of Obidòs, signs the direction and the set for P. Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, and R. Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci. The same pieces have been required and played at Teatro dell’Opera of CAE in Figueira da Foz, in the same year.

In 2012, in Siclily, signs the direction and the set for G. Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, with the interpreters from Opera House of Baltimore, the State Orchestra of Ukraine conducted by Silvano Frontalini, in the title role renowned soprano Manami Hama.

Since 1998 he starts to study the concept of the urban environment as theatre stage. He stress the anthropological value of the “Teatro dei luoghi” as well as the symbolic value of the sacred rites. Listed below some of the events he’s been involved with “Marsilio Ficino e la politica della Bellezza”, Performance dedicated to political power of Beauty. “Airam_ Le vergini velate e la Grande Prostituta: Babilonia”, performance dedicated to sacred femminine in the system of the “ wisdom doors” of the Bible, Florence. Set for “la Bellezza e la rovina” a project by Patrizia Stagnitta, special guest Giovanni Sollima. “Il Passo del Tempo”, Art show inspired by the summer solstice and dedicated to seasons cycle. “Innesti di vite”. Art show dedicated to the meeting between good and evil in the Man. Special guests Antonella Ruggiero and Riccardo Di Cosmo, First dancer of Opera House of Roma. “de vite/a”. It’s a performance dedicated to vineyard took as a metaphor over the logics of Life. “ricaVi”. It’s another performance created for “Teatro di Documenti” of Luciano Damiani, ispired by P.Pasolini’s, Alda Merini’s and E. Montale’s texts, a journey over the logics of Logos, a run signed by a thread metaphor of a timeless instinctive legacy that between Mother and Son. This performance was the winner of the prize “best direction” for the “Teatro dell’assistere, teatro del partecipare” competition, Teatro di Documenti, Rome. “La Maschera Armata” and “Dialoghi di Porpora”, art shows dedicated to the refound of a relict of a punic ship near the archeological site in Selinunte, noun such as “relitto di Porto Palo”, a celebration journey in the memory of the Mediterranean, inspired and re-adapted from H. Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas”. Collaboration with Studio Festi in occasion of the cultural happening “Odissea silenziosa”, “Resurrexit”, it’s a sacred show dedicated to the mistery of Resurrection, a philosophical pièce marked with baroque aesthetic like a apologetic artistic code. He collaborated with Teatro Studio di Scandicci, as a set designer for the “Magnetico” performance by F. Crisafulli. “Nuova Cosmogonia”, a opening show for the Holy Year of 2000, sacred performance inspired by creation of the world, created in occasion of the opening of the Holy Door. Since 2006 to 2010 is Art Director of the cultural event Inycon_ Menfi e il suo vino, and cultural adviser for different institutions, among this the Istituzione Culturale Federico II di Menfi, of which is vice-president
